TME Student Assessment Information

The Management Edge (TME) – RTO Code 3927 / CRICOS 02310K

Version 25.11 – Nov 2025

1. Purpose of Assessment

Assessment confirms that you can apply the skills and knowledge required by your qualification to the standard expected in real workplace situations.

TME (RTO # 3927) follows the 2025 Standards for RTOs and collects evidence that is valid, reliable, authentic, sufficient and current.

Your assessor will explain each assessment task before you start and will answer any questions you have.

2. Your Responsibilities as a Student

To support fair and accurate assessment outcomes, you are expected to:

  • Participate actively in your learning and assessment.
  • Submit all tasks on time and complete them yourself.
  • Prepare for assessments, including reading your learning materials and seeking support when needed.
  • Tell your trainer early if you feel you are falling behind or need adjustments.
  • Use the feedback provided to improve your work where resubmission is required.

3. Assessment Methods Used

Depending on your course, you may be assessed through:

  • Written questions (knowledge checks)
  • Practical demonstrations (live or video)
  • Workplace projects or tasks
  • Case studies or scenarios
  • Third-party reports (from a supervisor or employer)
  • Portfolios or collected evidence

Your assessment tool will clearly describe which of these apply to your unit or qualification.

4. Evidence Requirements

To be deemed competent, you must:

  • Complete all tasks and questions in the assessment tool.
  • Demonstrate the required level of skill consistently, not just once.
  • Show safe work practices at all times.
  • Provide additional evidence if your assessor requests it (e.g., workplace examples), within privacy limits.

If any part of your evidence is incomplete, unclear or inconsistent, the assessor may ask questions or request resubmission.

5. Written Assessment Expectations

Your written work must:

  • Answer each question fully and in your own words.
  • Use clear and simple language.
  • Refer to learning materials or workplace documents where appropriate.
  • Be your own work. We use a range of verification processes, including questioning and comparison to known standards.

Handwritten assessments are only accepted when this is reasonable or pre-approved.

6. Academic Integrity

Plagiarism

Using someone else’s words, images, or ideas as your own — including AI-generated content — is not permitted.

Collusion

Sharing answers or completing assessments with others is not allowed.

If plagiarism or collusion is identified, TME will follow its academic integrity process, which may include reassessment or disciplinary action.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools

AI tools (for example ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Copilot and similar programs) can be helpful for researching topics, checking definitions, or exploring ideas during your study.

However, using AI to write your assessment answers for you is considered a form of plagiarism and is not allowed. Your assessor must be confident that the work you submit is your own words, your own decisions, and your own understanding.

To stay compliant:

  • You may use AI for research, idea generation, or checking concepts.
  • You must not copy and paste AI-generated answers into assessments.
  • You must write your responses in your own words and reflect your own experience.
  • Your assessor may ask follow-up questions to verify your understanding.

If AI-written content is identified in your submission, TME will treat this the same as any other academic integrity breach and follow our standard process.

7. Practical Assessments

Practical assessments must reflect realistic workplace conditions, including:

  • Use of appropriate equipment
  • Safe work practices and PPE
  • Working to expected industry timeframes
  • Completing tasks to the standard required in the workplace

Your assessor may ask questions during or after the demonstration to confirm your understanding.

8. Workplace and Third-Party Evidence

If assessment occurs in your workplace, a third-party report may be used as supporting evidence. Third-party evidence:

  • Must be completed by an approved supervisor or manager
  • Supports the assessor’s decision, but does not replace it
  • Must reflect real tasks you have completed

If you are not employed, your assessor will organise a suitable simulated environment.

9. Reasonable Adjustment

If you have a disability, learning need, or temporary condition, you may request reasonable adjustment.
Adjustments cannot reduce the level of skill or knowledge required by the unit, but they can change how you demonstrate competence.

10. Assessment Outcomes

For each task you will receive:

  • Satisfactory (S) – the evidence meets the requirements
  • Not Satisfactory (NS) – more evidence or resubmission is required

For the full unit you will receive:

  • Competent (C)
  • Not Yet Competent (NYC)

If you are NYC after resubmission, you may need to re-enrol in the unit.

11. Additional Evidence Requests (2025 Standard Requirement)

TME may request extra or alternative evidence where needed to make a fair and reliable assessment decision.
This may include:

  • Work samples
  • Additional tasks
  • Clarifying questions
  • Supervisor confirmation

Any request will be reasonable and discussed with you.

12. Assessment Appeal Process

If you believe an assessment outcome is incorrect or unfair:

  1. First discuss the issue with your assessor.
  2. If still unresolved, lodge a written appeal with the TME course coordinator.
  3. Your appeal will be reviewed independently.

You will not be penalised for lodging a genuine appeal.

13. Confidentiality and Privacy

TME protects your personal information and assessment evidence in line with Australian privacy law.

You must also ensure you have permission to share any workplace materials.

14. Where to Get Help

You can ask your trainer/assessor for clarification at any point. If you need extra support — LLN, study skills, or wellbeing — TME will help you find appropriate assistance.
