Candidates must be employed in a workplace that provides opportunity to practice and demonstrate skills.

Employers must be willing to provide adequate time off normal duties to attend class and practice sessions.

Workplace supervisors will be required to comment on student progress and skills development.

Course information:

This qualification covers the skills and knowledge relating to the landscaping industry and includes constructing paving, retaining walls, irrigation, plant selection and propagation, soil structure and garden bed preparation and planting.

The landscape construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in this context.

Experienced teachers, who are experts in the field and currently working in the field, will guide you through the program, which involves practical projects & self paced activities.

Course outcomes:

Understand and apply enterprise work health and safety policies and procedures.

Set out a site for construction works in accordance with site plans and specifications.

Install surface and subsurface drainage systems.

Develop skills and knowledge required to install low and sprinkler volume irrigation systems.

Construct concrete structures and features as a component of landscape project works.

Construct brick structures and features or block structures and features, or both as a component of a landscaping project.

Transport, prepare and apply chemical mixes.

Course structure:

The sequence of delivery of the units will be organised with employers to best fit seasonal and project work plans.

Workplace supervisors will be required to comment on student progress and skills development

Induction: Trainees will be introduced to the course, delivery and assessment methods, and expectations and rights of trainees prior to course commencement.

All trainees are expected to comply with worksite WHS procedures and policies during practical activities. Safety procedures in the classroom will be explained at the commencement of the course.

RPL & Credit Transfer: Students who believe they have sufficient past experience to demonstrate full competence against particular units may apply for RPL using the forms and processes available from TME, RPL cannot be completed as an apprentice. Students may apply for credit transfer for any units completed in prior qualifications, including for the elective units
