Pre-requisites

Students interested in this course must
demonstrate their suitability and interest in completing the course as part of their career development plan. A high level of digital literacy is required. The course is delivered in English with local language translators available. A working knowledge of English is desirable.

Pathways

Students who complete this course are well placed to take on further roles within the Health Sector, either in their home country or overseas. Graduates of this course may be eligible to apply for visas to enter and work in Australia.

Course Overview

The program covers a wide range of topics and is designed to assist students gain the skills and knowledge necessary to enter this important and in-demand sector. It is suitable for students who may be in a current learning program in a related discipline, such as Nursing, and for students who have a strong desire to work in the industry.
Training and assessment is delivered in online classes, translated to local language, with local support officers and Australian-based trainers and support staff.

Course Structure

This course requires completion of 15 units of

1. Follow safe work practices for direct client care (HLTWHS002)
2. Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control (HLTINF006)
3. Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately (BSBMED301)
4. Engage with health professionals and the health system (CHCPRP005)
5. Recognise healthy body systems (HLTAAP001)
6. Facilitate responsible behaviour (CHCCCS009)
7. Work with diverse people

8. Communicate and work in health or community services
(CHCCOM005)
9. Maintain a high standard of service

10. Facilitate the empowerment of people receiving support

11. Work effectively with others

12. Work with people with mental health issues

13. Follow basic food safety practices

RPL and Credit Transfers

Students who believe they have sufficient past experience to demonstrate full competence against particular units may apply for RPL using the forms and processes available from the TME office. Students may apply for credit transfer for any units completed in prior qualifications, including for the elective units.

Introduction to the Course

Students will be introduced to the course, delivery and assessment methods, and
expectations and rights of students on course commencement.
All students are expected to comply with worksite WHS procedures and policies
during practical activities.
