Pre-requisites

There are no entry requirements for this course.

Students must wear;

  • Long pants
  • Safety or fully enclosed shoes
  • Broad brimmed hat

Cost

This training is subsidised by the NSW Government Stronger Communities Program and is free of charge to eligible Coolamon shire residents

Eligibility Requirements

  • The Coolamon Shire Council is pleased to offer this training in conjunction with funding from the NSW State Government’s Stronger Country Communities Program.
    This Skill Up! Training opportunity is available free of charge to all Coolamon residents aged 17-25 years.

The right to act as a worksite Traffic Controller on NSW roads is highly valued by a wide range of industries and provides you with the opportunity to earn good money in this in-demand occupation. 

This course will provide the participant with the knowledge and skills to perform traffic control competently while giving full consideration to their own safely, the safety of their coworkers and the safety of the public. It is suitable for people looking for part-time work, as well as those wishing to become a permanent employee in this area.

Course outcomes:

✓ Stop/direct road users using a stop/slow bat and understand stopping sight distances

✓ Monitor traffic with portable traffic control devices and temporary traffic signs according to traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes

✓ Maintain traffic incident reports

✓ Understand the Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGSs) also known as Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) for the site

✓ Assess and respond to changes in the environment, for example traffic volumes,

 weather conditions, road conditions, Work Health and Safety (WHS) and operational requirements

✓ Carry out risk assessments for personal safety

✓ Use communication methods and devices

✓ Conform to traffic control policy and procedures

This 3-day course is accredited by Safework NSW and includes the 2 skill sets;

  1. Traffic Controller, and
  2. Traffic Management Implementer
