Pre-requisites

For on-line programs, learners are required to have their own computer and reliable access to internet. All class formats require that learners have access to an environment that allows them to demonstrate application of skills required by the program.

LLN will be assessed prior to course commencement.

Course information:

This is a program designed for a broad range of workers in the Horticulture sector
wishing to expand commence a career in the Industry. This qualification is an ideal
entry point to a range of career choices in the sector.

The program develops skills and knowledge in basic plant and horticulture systems,
equipment necessary to support horticulture, and the treatment of weeds and
pests likely to be found in the typical environment. In addition, time is spent on
learning how to excel in a work environment, and how to follow general workplace
procedure.

Learning activities are conducted primarily face-to-face unless online engagement
is preferred, and it is expected that students are able to access appropriate
practice arrangements, either with an employer who can provide access to hands
on practical activities to support the training and assessment, or in an appropriate
similar environment, such as a neighbourhood garden. Trainee students must be in
employment in a relevant industry sector.

√ Understanding food safety in the Australian food production cycle.
√ Operating basic machinery and irrigation systems.
√ Applying quality concepts to work by planning and trialing improvements.
√ Recognising plants and preparing the environment to support growth
√ Ability to observe conditions of the environment and recognise where remedial action might be required.
√ Planting and pruning trees and plant displays
√ Understanding of the expected working conditions in the industry

AHC30620 Certificate III in Production Horticulture requires completion of 15 units of competency. The units below allow the specialisation in Group A (Horticulture)

Induction: Learners will be introduced to the course, delivery and assessment methods, and expectations and rights of learners prior to course commencement. All learners are expected to comply with worksite WHS procedure sand policies during practical activities. Safety procedures in the classroom will be explained at the commencement of the course.Learners are expected to provide their own PPE if not provided by the worksite

RPL & Credit Transfer: Students who believe they have sufficient past experience to demonstrate full competence against particular units may apply for RPL using the forms and processes available from the TME office. Students may apply for credit transfer for any units completed in prior qualifications, including for the elective units.

School Support: This program is offered by the school for students interested in developing a career in the Horticulture sector. Students are expected to abide by school policies and standards as they progress through their course and make every effort to complete units within the times set to keep up with schoolwork obligations.

Workplace Training: SBAT programs require a supportive workplace. Within reason, training can be customized to meet the demands of the workplace to ensure the best outcome for both student and employer. On the job training and assessment activities are built into our programs to benefit employers and enable learners to develop relevant workplace skills. We actively tailor training for people from diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities, and
encourage all to apply.
