Qualifications

 

LGA30304 Certificate III in Local Government (Operational Works)

This program is designed for Council works officers who are responsible for the maintenance of Council roads, drainage, bridges and other assets.   The program develops skills in leadership, customer service, planning works and asset maintenance techniques.   It is ideally suited for frontline staff who are keen to further develop their workplace skills with the view to move into acting leadership or supervisory roles in the future.

 

LGA40404 Certificate IV in Local Government (Operational Works)

A nationally recognised qualifications for Council Works officers in supervisory roles or for those wishing to move into a leadership roles in the future.  This program focuses on developing leadership and management skills within an operational works environment.

 

MSS40316 Certificate IV in Competitive Systems & Practices

This qualification is about maximising effectiveness of processes, resources and operations.  There is a strong focus on continuous improvement and streamlining work to benefit the organisation and improve financial sustainability.   An ideal qualification for team leaders and managers looking to develop skills in continuous improvement and change management.

 

BSB40315 Certificate IV in Customer Engagement

A qualification designed specifically for those who provide service to Local Government customers as a core function of their role. This program develops awareness of Council and community expectations of service delivery and focuses on improving customer interactions.

 

BSB41415 Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety

This qualification develops knowledge and understanding of the OHS & WHS regulations and legislation that apply to maintaining a safe workplace. This course will benefit people who work in a leadership or supervisory role or who aspire to do so in the future.

 

BSB51915 Diploma of Leadership and Management

This qualification is designed for aspiring managers and leaders. The course develops skills in management of people and operational processes.

Short Courses

Developing Leaders in Local Government

A 6 day leadership program designed for experienced Council staff who supervise others in the workplace or who may move into leadership roles in the future.  The program is made up of 3 modules focused on leading people and processes within a Local Government environment.

 

Project Management Workshop

This program introduces useful tools for  planning and coordinating  workplace projects.   Learners will be introduced to project management principals and planning tools.   Learners will be asked to work with these tools to develop their own project plans.

This interactive workshop can incorporate your Council project management templates and policies where applicable.

 

Providing Service to the Community

This workshop focuses on the important role Council officers play in providing service to the community. The workshop develops knowledge of Council’s structure and purpose in relation to service provision and builds communication and customer service skills. This program is designed for Frontline staff who may be new to Local Government or in need of refresher customer service training.

 

Safety in the Workplace

This program introduces occupational health and safety (OHS) legislation. It creates awareness of Council policies and procedures and the responsibilities of all staff members in maintaining a safe work environment.

We encourage a proactive approach to OHS in the workplace, focusing on how individuals can contribute to creating a safer work environment. The program also serves as a timely reminder of the importance of observing safe work practices.

 

Working with Interpreters

Council’s operate within a growing multi-cultural society. Communicating with customers of non-English speaking backgrounds can be challenging for many staff. This program focuses on techniques to assist communication with linguistically diverse customers with particular focus on using interpreting services effectively. This workshop is devliver by a qualified trainer and NAATI accredited interpreter. Students have the opportunity to practice working with an interpreter.

 

Fixing Potholes Workshop

This workshop is designed to assist Local Government and contractor employees identify defects found on sealed and unsealed roads. The program outlines the possible causes of defects and appropriate repair options. The workshop is a practical and interactive session focusing primarily on local roads and will provide participants with the opportunity to share valuable knowledge and experiences.

 

Bridge Maintenance Workshop

This workshop is aimed at bridge asset managers, works supervisors and field staff responsible for the management, inspection, maintenance and rehabilitation of local bridges. The workshop aims to assist practitioners to recognize bridge condition problems, ways to report condition, when to seek specialised opinion how to select appropriate treatments and ways to evaluate the most economical option.

 

Maintenance of Sealed Roads

This workshop provides Council Works officers with a practical and understandable guide for the better management of sealed road pavements. This is achieved by providing knowledge of the latest methods in pavement design procedures, developments in road surfacing technology and road building practices for sealed local roads in urban, rural and remote areas around Australia.

 

Management of Unsealed Roads

The workshop provides the local roads practitioner with a practical and understandable guide for the better management of unsealed road. The workshop will provide the latest developments, new techniques and best practices on how to improve and lower maintenance costs of maintaining unsealed roads.
